Venetian plaster comes in many forms: Lime and Acrylic. Both have different grain sizes which provide a different effect.

The effects are matte stone, marble, and concrete. Lime plaster can achieve these effects by selecting the correct type. The following are the names of the types of venetian plasters that can create your desired effect.

For a matte stone wall design you can use a “classic marmorino” or “intonichino”. The marmorino is a finer grain venetian plaster the achieves a smooth finish. The matte effect depending on the brand of venetian plaster. Some brands have more marble dust than others which can cause a low-lust sheen. Intonochino is a thicker grained venetian plaster that gives a more textured finish.

For a marble feature wall design you can use a “stucco” or “grassello” venetian plaster and in some cases you can also use a “fine marmorino”. The marble effect is the most skillful of the venetian plasters to apply because of the layering involved and the need to apply the final coats wet-on-wet which means applying two coats after ones another and then burnishing the walls. Burnishing is when the applicator applies pressure to the trowel on a downward angel to create the marble glass effect.
